Prepare a video for a file size limit.

Start from the destination requirements

A review portal, messaging app or upload form may accept your video only below a stated file size. Check its current requirements before exporting, including format, duration and resolution. A file can meet a byte limit and still fail another requirement.

Open the video in Enhance video and enable Set maximum file size. Enter the limit in MB, where one MB means 1,000,000 bytes. Leave some headroom below the destination’s stated maximum. For a ten-megabyte target, 10 means at most 10,000,000 bytes on successful export.

Find your way in Polyglot

Open Enhance video directly to load the final video and set its size limit. If the video also needs subtitles, manage that recording’s subtitle tracks separately in Projects and Files. Export the checked MP4 and reviewed subtitle files for the same final edit.

Spend the available bytes deliberately

The full duration, audio and container overhead all share the budget. A long recording has fewer bytes available for each second of picture than a short clip at the same maximum size. Polyglot reduces video bitrate to fit that budget; very small budgets may be rejected before processing.

Choose H.264 or HEVC according to the receiving app’s support. Reducing output resolution can make a constrained picture more useful when the original is larger than the audience needs. Keep optional AI enhancement off if your only goal is compression. A larger resolution does not create more room in the budget.

Look at a representative scene

Preview a passage with motion, faces and any important on-screen text. Lower bitrate can blur detail or introduce visible blocks, especially during fast movement. Decide whether the result is readable enough for its purpose, rather than treating the requested size as the only success criterion.

The preview helps you judge settings; the completed file is what determines the final byte count. If important details suffer, increase the maximum or choose another way to share the recording. The app does not promise that every video can remain clear under every limit.

Keep the whole recording and verify delivery

After rendering, Polyglot checks the actual file size. If necessary, it can make up to three lower-bitrate adjustments using the rendered video. It publishes only a file within the requested maximum; otherwise it reports the failure. It never shortens the video just to meet the size target.

The export is a new SDR MP4 and your original remains unchanged. Play it and check audio before sending it through your chosen service. Compression remains free after the seven-day trial. Uploading or sending the file is a separate step that you control.
