Choose your starting point

Open Translate to import SRT or WebVTT, or choose subtitles already saved in your library. For a new recording, start in Create and generate its original subtitles first. Imported subtitle files need no speech recognition or original video.

Translate into one or more languages

Choose one or more target languages. Translate a single track, or select tracks across projects in Files and use Translate selected. Choose one source language per project for a batch. The local Gemma model translates text; its target languages are separate from speech-recognition support.

Keep your decisions

Completed translations and manual edits stay intact. Source edits mark affected translated lines for review. Export separate SRT or VTT tracks, readable transcripts, or bilingual subtitles pairing the original with one completed language.

Can I translate an existing SRT file?

Yes. Open Translate, import an SRT or VTT, choose languages and translate. Your original file stays unchanged.

Is subtitle text uploaded?

No. Subtitle translation runs on your Mac after the translation model is downloaded.

Does translating into Japanese require Japanese speech recognition?

No. An imported SRT already contains text. Translating text and recognizing Japanese speech are separate capabilities; the media transcription model does not support Japanese speech. Translation quality still needs review.
