Translate course subtitles without re-transcribing lessons.

Start with the approved lesson subtitles

If your course already has reviewed subtitles, use those files as the source for localization. You do not need to recognize the speech again just to reach a new audience. An existing SRT carries both dialogue and timestamps, so the translation can start from the wording you already approved. Keep a copy of the original alongside the final lesson video.

Check that the subtitle file belongs to the exact lesson version learners will watch. A revised introduction or removed exercise can make otherwise good translations appear at the wrong time. Name your files consistently by module, lesson and source language. Polyglot handles one imported file at a time; this is not a course-wide batch importer.

Find your way in Polyglot

Open Translate to import an approved SRT or VTT, or choose an existing library track. In Files, select one source per lesson to translate a course batch. Completed languages remain intact; review each new track before exporting the project folders.

Translate one lesson into the languages you need

Open Translate in Polyglot and choose the lesson file. Select one or more target languages, then start translation. The translation model runs on your Mac after its initial download. The video is optional because the source dialogue is already in the subtitle file; you can attach it later for playback review.

Cue numbers, order and millisecond timing are preserved, including overlaps present in the original. Your imported source is saved in a local project and your original SRT stays untouched. Translation progress is saved as it completes, so an interrupted lesson can be resumed without discarding successful cues.

Review teaching vocabulary across tracks

Review lesson-specific vocabulary before exporting. Product names, mathematical terms, code identifiers and assessment instructions may need different treatment from ordinary dialogue. Keep a small reference list outside the app and apply it consistently across lessons; Polyglot does not provide a shared course glossary or automatic terminology enforcement.

Compare translated lines with the source in the editor. Pay particular attention to negatives, quantities and instructions that tell learners when to pause or submit work. If you correct the source, affected completed translations are marked for review. You choose whether to keep the wording or explicitly regenerate those lines.

Deliver the tracks and check the learner experience

Export one language or all completed languages as separate UTF-8 SRT files. Label each track clearly in the receiving course platform. Play the beginning, an exercise and the ending with captions enabled, checking language selection and whether longer translated sentences are readable within the original timing.

This workflow preserves timing; it does not automatically retime, burn in or style the captions. If a translation needs a different reading duration, adjust that cue in Polyglot’s timeline without changing the original or other languages.
