Prepare SRT and WebVTT captions for your web video.

Start from the final edit

A web video handoff often arrives with the picture in one file and captions in another. Before changing the subtitle format, check that both belong to the same edit. Converting an SRT into VTT preserves its cue times; it cannot compensate for a different opening, missing section or revised ending.

Open Translate in Polyglot and choose the SRT or WebVTT. This file-only workflow needs neither the original video nor an AI model. If you want to review playback, attach the matching video to the project. Keep the originals alongside your delivery notes.

Find your way in Polyglot

Import an existing SRT or VTT through Translate, or reopen a saved track from Files. Edit and export the required format without an AI model. Use Projects to keep the track associated with the exact video used in your web player.

Convert the document, not just its extension

In Export, select WebVTT subtitles or SRT subtitles. Polyglot writes the appropriate header and timestamp syntax. SRT uses numeric cue IDs; arbitrary identifiers from imported VTT are retained for VTT output and mapped to numeric IDs for SRT. Millisecond timing and existing overlaps are preserved.

The output is plain timed text. WebVTT styles, regions, positioning and inline timestamps are removed after an import notice. If your source relies on karaoke timing, special placement or visual formatting, plan to recreate that presentation in the destination tool. ASS conversion is not included.

Review the actual viewing experience

Load the exported file in the receiving player or publishing system. Check a sentence at the beginning, a busy passage in the middle and the last spoken line. Look for long lines, unusual characters and captions that obscure important visuals. The player controls how plain subtitles appear.

If the whole track is consistently early or late, apply a fixed timing offset in Polyglot and export again. If the mismatch increases over time, investigate the edit or frame-rate conversion instead. A constant offset does not correct drift.

Deliver languages clearly

For a multilingual video, choose target languages in the same project and review each completed translation before exporting separate tracks. Use filenames that identify the video version and language, then give each track the correct label in your publishing platform.

If you hand the file to a developer, specify its language and intended video version along with the caption filename.
